How can you help?

Support Workers are a vital part of the Switched On Project!  They work alongside the core Project team and the Tutors to provide extra support to the participants.  This additional support and encouragement to the participants is so important when they are working towards their goals and so often are facing huge barriers in their lives.  Support Workers are there to encourage, inspire, support, and have a positive impact to the participants' lives and their general experience of the Switched On Project!

A variety of skills are needed, but the most important is to have real interpersonal skills, understanding of social exclusion issues and the enthusiasm and interest to assist with the participants in their learning and capacity.

Being a Support Worker is also a great opportunity to get experience and could help with job prospects.

Support Workers:

  • Work as a team with Tutors and Volunteers to provide a richer long term experience for learners in local venues
  • Get alongside learners to help them achieve their aims
  • Recognise that learners need help with confidence, trust, assertiveness as well as skills
  • Help learners do what they can do better, rather than tell them what they can’t do
  • Get free training
  • Need no experience
  • Help us support members of our communities to overcome challenges they face in accessing opportunities to learn

We can provide the training and support to help you get new skills, and a basic hourly rate.
