Testimonials

Thekra Mohamed Ahmed was introduced to the Project in June 2009.  She trained to be a teacher in the Yemen, but married and moved to the UK 6 years ago.  Since that time she had lost all her confidence and wanted to develop her communication skills and be able to help people like herself who were new to this country.

A year after being introduced to the Project, Thekra has grown in confidence and gained valuable experience.  She has attended the volunteer and mentoring courses we put on for our Volunteers/Support Workers, and has been introduced to BAWSO, one of our partner organisations.  Thekra has taken part in their training and offered to volunteer for them to support women from other cultures who have experienced abuse.  Thekra has proved to be an invaluable support over the last few months and the Tutor has recommended that Thekra becomes a paid Support Worker for the WYOCO group.  She has gained so much confidence and often expresses her gratitude for this opportunity.

May we have this opportunity to say ‘Thank You Thekra!’  You are a credit to the Project and the community.  You have inspired so many women with your help and support it is a pleasure to work with you. Thank you!   From all the Switched On team and the community.
