Andrew Davies to Launch Arwain:
Wireless, Internet access for everyone
Andrew Davies, AM Economic Development and ICT
Minister for Wales will be launching the wireless broadband network
Arwain on Tuesday 8th October.
Arwain Chair, Evan Jones explained what Arwain is; “Arwain
enables local communities, educational establishments and businesses
to benefit from affordable high speed Internet access not available
through existing cable routes”.
Terry Price, Wales Director of the Scarman Trust added; “Many
groups and organisations do not have the opportunity or resources
for broadband Internet access which has created a gulf between
those that have and those that don’t. Arwain’s aim
is to make wireless access available to everybody.
For many community groups price is a key factor and these days
access to information is crucial”.
Showcasing this technology, the launch will
be held in Cardiff and will give those attending the opportunity
to interact and experience wireless broadband first hand.
Arwain is free to users and makes available broadband internet
access, donated by members, to the local business and residential
communities.
Evan Jones, Chair for Arwain said: “The wireless Internet
breaks down barriers to enable people to work or play anywhere.
With Arwain you can log on, surf the web, send emails, or video-conference
from almost anywhere; the top of a mountain, local park, car,
or your favourite pub. All of this is possible without a tangle
of wires”.
Arwain already has an Internet backbone covering much of Cardiff
and reaching out into the valleys. The network is continuously
expanding and Arwain is reaching further out throughout Wales.
