ELLIS

Ellis is an interactive multi media package for helping with English listening and learning skills ie ESOL. The package has been bought in conjunction with Cardiff ITEC and Coleg GLanfafren and will be installed on a stand alone computer in each of five main sites, these will be :-

The All Wales Saheli Association

The Yemeni Centre

Cash- The Huggard Centre is up and running and Net Nanny has been installed to prevent distasteful websites being downloaded. The Centre was visited by representatives of the WDA last month, they were very impressed with the project.

CGSC – Switch computers are installed ready for networking. An ADSL wireless modem router has been fitted and the whole site is on a wireless system with broadband access.
All the staff have individual e-mail, file and print sharing.

Loudoun Square CC – Bt have found more faults with the exchange so the Broadband was down, hopefully these have been rectified this week.

Slipper Baths – Geraldine has been running basic IT classes this last 6 weeks and the Saturday African culture classes have been doing well.

BAWSO – The whole of BAWSO has been networked Gaby has bought in 10 new computers which she is installing herself. Her CITC networking course has boosted her technical skills.

MENFA – 1 computer formatted and ready to install. Hopefully workbench will be fitted but still waiting.

Bhatra Sikh Centre– Web page to do, Jas has given me some of the photographs and text for the site. Jas has also done the Punjabi translation for the Switch web site. And has been placed on the web site.
The wireless aerial has been installed. Wireless is up and running, Jas now has broadband access from his centre up to 1.5km. I have installed anew HP Laser 1200 at the centre as the Brother was faulty.

Switch Steering Group Meeting. – Switch Steering group meeting booked for July 23rd @2.00pm at the Samaj Centre Grange Town.

Somali Centre – the Somali Centre has been refitted with a wireless network so that the office and reception have reliable broadband.All the computers have been fixed and are working properly with networked printing and file sharing.

Barry College: - Finalising a Macromedia Contribute course for Switch Steering Group members. Should start 21st July @the Somaj Crentre.

Mewn Cymru- Nothing to report

Samaj Centre: - Barry College are sorting out new courses for the centre.
A new floppy drive has been fitted in one of the Dell computers.
2 new keyboards have been issued as the existing ones were worn. The network is being upgraded this week , with a netgear box, this should improve reliability.
An Ellis machine will be fitted this week.

BVSNW – A wireless network has been fitted in the new office all the staff have broadband internet access, access to their e-mail on the BVSNW domain,

All Wales Saheli Ass – I have installed 3 new Dell 2.0 gig computers with networked broadband access. The office is now networked with broadband access for the staff. An Ellis machine is to be installed this month.
